海杧果 Cerbera (Sea Mango)

海杧果是海邊紅樹林的組成部份，但亦有偶然生長於岸上。多數為小樹，但亦有長高至7，8米者，枝輪生，葉互生，花白色，花冠橙紅色，果橢圓形，初生時青色，成熟時轉橙黃色，果實外皮是纖維質，種子靠水力傳播。全株有毒，果與種子有劇毒，中毒情況與以上四大毒草相似，中毒者最後呼吸困難，心跳停止死亡。

Cerbera (Sea Mango) is part of the Mangrove trees along the seashore. Although occasionally, it can be found growing at locations further inland. Mainly small trees, but sometimes grow to 7 to 8 meters, branches whorled, leaves alternate, flower white, corolla orange red in colour, fruit in oval shape (like a mango), initially green in colour, turn to orange-red when matured. The outside skin of fruit has a thick fibrous cover which allow them to float on water and be carried away by tidal action. This would achieve the purpose of water transport of seeds.
